Senior Track Design Engineer – Transit / rail

Use your talents and experience to perform railway engineering design and planning support for transit systems, commuter and freight railroads. Perform Task Manager and Lead Engineer roles for final design of transit/railroad projects, including planning, developing and leading projects or design activities for regional transit projects. As a key project lead, you will direct team member's work, develop and mentor junior staff; and provide technical and quality guidance. You will be a positive problem solver with a flexible approach to your work, committed to excellence, motivated, and a strong team player.
The Senior Track Design Engineer will be required to provide vertical and horizontal design layouts for alternative rail transit alignments; provide design details and specifications for steel rail, rail fasteners, concrete ties, rail welding techniques, rail crossovers and switching systems. The Senior Track Design Engineer may be required to train and supervise other Junior Level Track Design Engineers. The Senior Track Design Engineer must be registered as a Professional Engineer since he/she will be required to provide his/her engineering stamp on completed design drawings.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The Senior Track Design Engineer will be responsible for the following functions:
• Producing railroad engineering designs.
• Help supervise, schedule and check work of project team members.
• Work closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
• Responsible for productivity of subordinates and on time, on budget projects.
• Technical writing ability includes the knowledge and ability to prepare detailed specifications and reports for track engineering and construction.
• Experience with track design for transit systems, commuter systems, or freight railroad and the understanding of the essential unique aspects and requirements of each preferred.
• Thorough understanding of the concepts and criteria of track geometry design and the procedures to layout trackwork alignments. Including the ability to develop and analyze alternative track alignments.
• Familiarity with the components of the track structure and their function.
• Experience with related railroad infrastructure such as bridges, grade crossings, grade separations, stations, and maintenance facilities/yards.
• Ability to prepare budget and man-hour estimates for engineering work and direct staff accordingly.
Basic Qualifications :
Candidate must hold a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering or other engineering discipline, Professional Engineering certification, and have at least 10 years experience performing design for rail transit or freight railroad projects.
